Hundreds for runners line up for Redditch’s Race for Life
RUNNERS in Redditch laced up their trainers for this years Race for Life at Arrow Valley Country Park, raising more than £50,000 for the charity.
Nearly 900 people set off on the start line, with town MP Chris Bloore bowling the horn alongside young campaigner Tilly.
Walkers, joggers and runners of all ages and backgrounds came together in memory of loved ones and in support of those currently affected by cancer.
Since it began, Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life has raised over £970 million nationwide, with more than 10 million people taking part across the UK.
All proceeds go directly towards supporting research, treatments and tests for cancer.
Speaking after the event, Mr Bloore said: “It was a privilege to stand shoulder to shoulder with so many inspiring people in Arrow Valley Park today.
“Cancer touches nearly every family, including here in Redditch and the surrounding villages and events like Race for Life show the strength of our community and our shared determination to beat this disease.
“To see so many people walking, jogging and running in memory or support of loved ones was incredibly moving.
“I want to thank every participant, every volunteer and the brilliant organisers from Cancer Research UK for putting on such a powerful and uplifting event.”
