Hedge cutting reminder in Worcestershire as bird nesting season due to start soon
RESIDENTS are being advised that there is less than a week to go before bird nesting season if they need to cut back trees and hedges.
Worcestershire County Council says now is a good time to prune, before the start of nesting season, which runs between March and August.
The County Council manages 74kilometre of hedges in the interests of safety so that footpaths are kept clear and good visibility is maintained for road users.
Coun Karl Perks, cabinet member with responsibility for highways and transport, at Worcestershire County Council said: “The county highways team looks after many trees and hedges, including some along highway verges.
“We must carefully balance keeping roads and pathways safe and visible, with protecting plants and wildlife, especially during sensitive times of the year.
“Homeowners and landowners are responsible for maintaining their own trees and hedges, particularly where they overhang roads or pavements.
“We are therefore encouraging people to cut them back now, ahead of the bird nesting season in March, to help avoid disturbing nesting birds.”
