FOOTBALL – Redditch United make two new signings as captain Cameron stays on
REDDITCH United have made their first couple of signings ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The Reds have swooped for right-sided player Jak Hickman and left-back Will Grewal-Pollard.
Hickman joins the Reds following a more than three-year spell at Halesowen Town while Grewal-Pollard spent time at Barwell last season.
Reds boss Mike Fowler said: “I am really pleased to bring a player of Jak’s pedigree to our football club. Jak has incredible ability, his delivery into the box is second to none.
“I have a really exciting plan for him with our squad and I believe it will be a fantastic season for him and in turn, for us.
“He will bring experience, maturity and a voice to an already strong squad. I can’t wait to get to work with him.”
“Will is a player who has impressed me previously and we tried to bring him in last season. Fast forward six months and we finally get our man.
“He is a very talented individual who will bring many positives to our squad. An attacking left back with great quality on the ball and great game intelligence.
“Left back was an area of concern last season, and with this signing I believe we have solved it and then some.
“I look forward to getting to work with him and helping him develop this season.”
Hickman began his career at Coventry City and made four appearances for Bolton Wanderers in League Two while he also played 11 times for the Reds during a loan spell in 2019/20.
The 27-year-old later enjoyed spells with St Patrick’s Athletic, King’s Lynn Town, Banbury United and Halesowen and made more than 100 appearances for the Yeltz.
Grewal-Pollard spent time in Derby County’s academy and signed professional terms with the Rams in 2021.
The 23-year-old has since played for Alfreton Town, Gresley Rovers and Stourbridge and played for the Reds during pre-season before the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
Redditch have also confirmed captain Alex Cameron has agreed terms to remain with the club for the 2026/27 season.
Cameron scored 20 goals last season to top the club’s goalscoring charts as United just missed out on a play-off spot.
And the striker is just 17 appearances away from equalling the club’s appearance record.
Fowler said: “I am delighted that Alex has decided to continue his journey with us.
“He is an incredible human being and a person I have a huge respect for.
“He is my captain, top goalscorer and will be leading my frontline again for the upcoming season.
“We are mutually motivated to improve on a hugely successful season we’ve had this year.”
Cameron added: “You don’t come across many places you can truly call home.
“But Redditch for me is where I feel most loved and appreciated.
“Not only for me but for my family, the way the club and fans as a whole have treated my family and me is unmatched.
“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else and to be so close to being the record holder for appearances is a special achievement.
“I’m coming for that record.”
