Children in Worcestershire to take part in new filmmaking competition

CHILDREN across Worcestershire are being invited to take part in a new national film-making competition.

The contest challenges young people to creating a short video message to their future selves.

The film should explore what the creator would like to remember about who they are today in ten years time.

This could be a favourite hobby, treasured memory, or something that brings them joy.

‘Dear Future Self’, launched by the Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (PQA), is all about encouraging young people to creatively reflect on what is important to them, in a fun, meaningful and confidence-building way.

Nick Pilton, PQA’s head of film and television, said: “Film is a powerful storytelling tool and we can’t wait to see the creativity and imagination that participants bring to the challenge.

“With the summer holidays giving young people more free time, this is a brilliant opportunity to step away from screens, try something creative and use their phones or cameras in a more purposeful way.”

The competition is available to all young people aged 18 and under and requires the subject to be the filmmaker, featuring either on screen or through a voiceover.

Two winners will be selected (under 12 as well as 12 and over). Each will receive a £150 cash prize and runners-up can win £20 worth of cinema vouchers.

The winners and runners-up will receive their awards and have their film screened at the PQA film festival, taking place in London on November 15 and Sheffield on November 29.

Entries must be submitted by midnight on August 31.
