Alcester running club donates life-saving bleed kit to town

A LIFE-SAVING bleed kit has been donated to the town by Run Alcester, providing vital emergency equipment that could help save lives.

The kit contains essential materials, including trauma dressings and tourniquets, enabling members of the public to provide immediate assistance in the event of a severe bleed while awaiting the arrival of emergency services.

The bleed kit was presented on April 27 by Run Alcester Chair Helen Bowen, and was formally received on behalf of the town by the Mayor of Alcester, Coun David Henderson.

Also in attendance were volunteers Tim Cronin and Bill Goodall from Alcester and District Community First Responders, who installed the kit in a defibrillator cabinet housed within a newly refurbished and repurposed red telephone box on Church Street.

Helen said: “We’re proud to support the safety of our community in a practical way. As runners, we’re out on the streets every day, and we know how important it is to have accessible emergency equipment nearby.

“We hope this kit will never be needed, but if it is, it could help save a life.”

Coun David Henderson, Mayor of Alcester, added: “As Mayor, the installation of a bleed kit inside a telephone box is probably the smallest ‘grand opening’ I’ve been asked to officiate – but, joking aside, it is undoubtedly one of the most important.

“I’d like to thank Run Alcester and the Community First Responders for their commitment to making Alcester a safer place for everyone.”

Manufactured by Warwickshire-based company Turtle Medical, the kits are typically stored within defibrillator cabinets.

In an emergency, members of the public can dial 999 to obtain the cabinet access code, with call handlers providing step-by-step guidance on how to use the kit to help save a life.
