Alcester Royal British Legion marks 105th anniversary
MEMBERS of Alcester Royal British Legion got together recently to celebrate its 105th birthday.
Dignitaries, special guests and veterans attended a special luncheon on June 6 at Alcester town hall to mark the momentous milestone of the branch which formed on June 3, 1921.
A date which, according to the records makes Alcester RBL the oldest in Warwickshire.
Over 50 guests helped the commemorations including the High Sheriff of Warwickshire Susan Rasmussen, Lord Hertford of Ragley Hall and president of the Warwickshire and Birmingham RBL, Elaine Butler.

Mark Cargill, branch chair said: “To celebrate 105 years is a truly outstanding achievement.
“The Alcester branch has been in continuous service offering assistance to veterans and their families for all those years.
“That need has not gone away and is as important now as it was then. We do all of this with the support of our amazing members. My thanks go to them all.
“We not only help veterans, but also promote the Royal British Legion, showcase their good works and encourage more people both to join and support us.”
He reiterated that it is not necessary to be a veteran to join as a member.
