FOOTBALL – Alvechurch to stay at Lye Meadow for one more season

ALVECHURCH will remain at Lye Meadow next season after the club held an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to discuss their ground options in 2026/27.

Club chairman Richard Thorndike called an EGM to discuss whether the club should remain at Lye Meadow or groundshare with a nearby club.

The Planning Committee at Bromsgrove District Council voted in favour of the club’s outline planning application to build 25 homes on their Lye Meadow site last month.

However, the club have not received a timeframe for the proposed development with Church keen to move from their Lye Meadow home to The Hayes as soon as possible.

Following a meeting between club officials, Church voted unanimously in favour of rejecting a proposed groundshare next season.

The club will instead remain at Lye Meadow for one final season.

Alvechurch said via a statement: “It was agreed that much work is needed to help improve the ground to a standard that will help improve players, staff, committee and supporters match day experience, but obviously weighing up the cost versus benefit of making costly changes.

“We want to give Lye Meadow the send off it deserves, so are looking to everyone to help us achieve this and make Lye Meadow the best it can be for what will be our final season.

“Hopefully the move to the Hayes is now on the planning horizon, so let’s all pull together to make our last season one to remember, both on and off the pitch.”

Alvechurch will play in the Southern League Premier Central again next season after securing a 14th place finish in the table.

Church have played their home games at Lye Meadow since 1957.
