SHIHAN Dave Treadwell, founder of Furi Sutairu Karate Academy in Redditch, celebrated the success of his ICO England karate team.

Treadwell led the England team at the ICO World Championships in October last year.

And he recently hosted a gala evening to celebrate the team’s success at the World Championships.

Athletes travelled from across the county to attend the event with every team member awarded a bespoke personalised medal.

And a number of athletes also received special dedication awards, including: David Andrews, Steve Wentwoth Pollock, Belle Richards, Freya Hampson, Ollie Scott, Artur  Majchrzak, Lucie Thopson, Micheal Nussey, Brian Whatford and Kerry Hillier.

England’s ICO karate president Treadwell led a team of 43 athletes with England represented by more than 200 martial artists at the event in Swansea, Wales.

And England topped the medal table with 201 gold medals, 194 silver and 133 bronze ahead of the United States of America and hosts Wales.
